HIV/AIDS in Adolescents: Preventions

Though the number of HIV and AIDS diagnosed adolescents is relatively small (Metzler, Weiskotten & Morgen,2000), the number of diagnosed 20-24 year olds in the U.S. is quite large, standing at over 40,000 in the year 2000. It is unknown how many of these young adults acquired the disease as a teenager. It is possible that the increase of cases in this age bracket is misleading due to the lengthy latency period known to exist with this disease. At least half of the new cases of HIV in the U.S. are found in people 24 or younger...
